Use the up and down arrows to scroll through the menu options. Press the MENU button to get there if you are resetting the radio after it loses power or if you get lost during the initial setup. To begin the setup, you need to be on the MENU. I recommend switching it to ON and putting a piece of tape over the switch so you (or the little ones running around the house) are never tempted to flip that switch to OFF. If this is flipped to OFF, your radio will NEVER work. This is NOT a power switch it’s how your radio receives information from the National Weather Service. Next make sure the switch on the side is flipped to ON. I recommend changing them twice a year when the time changes to keep them fresh. Like your smoke detector and carbon monoxide monitor, it is critically important to keep fresh batteries in this radio. The batteries are a back-up power source for when your power goes out during severe weather. It comes with a wall plug and you should ALWAYS leave your radio plugged in. The very first thing you need to do is put AA batteries in the back of your radio. This is one of the newer models where you do not need to know your SAME code, though I will explain both models in the instructions below.

This post will walk you through the complete setup of a Midland NOAA weather radio ( this is my favorite model), including how to correctly program it. When you buy a NOAA weather radio you need to set it up and program it correctly to receive the weather alerts you want, and to make sure you don’t receive the ones you don’t want.
#MIDLAND RADIO PROGRAMMING TV#
A NOAA weather radio is one of the best resources to be alerted that something is happening, then you can turn to your favorite TV station to get information on the specific threat.

Your local TV stations can also be a great resource (in my opinion, the best source) during dangerous weather, but you have to know something is happening in order to turn your TV on. Most smart phones have ways you can receive that information - just make sure you have downloaded an app and set it up properly. Next, you will need to program the channel.During severe weather, it is critically important for you to have more than one way to receive weather alerts (watches, warnings, and advisories). Hit “select” and then press “menu” twice.
